Custom Cabinetry

Handcrafted cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms, libraries, and built-ins — each piece a masterwork of precision woodworking, premium materials, and timeless design. Proudly serving homeowners across North Texas from our Gainesville workshop.

What We Offer

Cabinetmaking as Fine Art

Custom cabinetry sits at the intersection of architecture, furniture-making, and interior design. Unlike factory-produced cabinets — which rely on particleboard cores, vinyl wraps, and limited dimensional options — Southern Shore cabinetry is built entirely from solid hardwoods, furniture-grade plywood, and premium veneers, cut and assembled by hand in our North Texas shop.

What does that mean for your home? It means cabinet boxes that won't delaminate after five years. Dovetailed drawer boxes that glide silently on soft-close undermount slides. Door and face-frame grain patterns that flow continuously across a 14-foot kitchen island. Every millimeter is intentional — because cabinets you touch every day should feel like furniture, not fixtures.

Materials & Finishes

Great cabinetry starts with great materials. We source from the same suppliers trusted by the finest furniture makers in the country.

White Oak

Our most popular species. Beautiful open grain, takes stain evenly, exceptionally durable. Perfect for both contemporary and traditional kitchens.

American Black Walnut

Rich chocolate tones, fine straight grain, and natural luster. The definitive luxury hardwood — no stain needed; we finish it clear.

Hard Maple

Tight, uniform grain with a pale creamy color. Ideal for painted finishes and contemporary slab-front designs. Resists dents and wear.

Cherry

Warm reddish-brown that deepens with age. Smooth grain and develops a natural patina over time that adds character and depth.

Paint-Grade (Maple/Poplar)

Closed-grain hardwoods, spray-finished with conversion varnish in any Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams shade. Perfect for colorful kitchens.

Exotic Veneers

Macassar ebony, figured anigre, burl walnut, and quartered sapele for accent panels, bar fronts, and statement islands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert answers to the questions we hear most often from North Texas homeowners.

How much does custom cabinetry cost in North Texas?+

Custom cabinetry costs vary significantly based on wood species, door style, finish complexity, and hardware selection. A full custom kitchen package costs more than factory or semi-custom kitchens, with the difference reflecting solid hardwood construction versus particleboard, hand-cut joinery versus automated assembly, and lasting durability versus shorter lifespan. We provide detailed line-item proposals after the design consultation — never a vague estimate.

How long does a custom cabinetry project take?+

From signed agreement to final install, most cabinetry projects take 10–16 weeks: 2–3 weeks for design and material selection, 6–8 weeks for shop fabrication (we build everything in our Gainesville workshop), and 1–2 weeks for on-site installation. Larger whole-home packages may extend to 20 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline at contract signing and communicate progress weekly — you'll never wonder where your cabinets are.

What's the difference between custom and semi-custom cabinetry?+

Semi-custom cabinets (from brands like KraftMaid or Omega) start from a factory catalog: you pick from a fixed menu of door styles, finishes, and sizes — the manufacturer builds to those constraints. Custom cabinetry has no catalog. Every dimension, material, joinery method, and finish is specified for your space. If you want a 37½-inch-wide drawer stack to fill an odd corner, we build it. If you want continuous grain across an island, we select and match the boards. Semi-custom fills a space; custom defines it.

Do you only build cabinetry for homes you've constructed?+

No. While many of our cabinetry projects are for Southern Shore custom homes where we're also the builder, our cabinetry division operates independently. We routinely design and build cabinetry for remodels, kitchen renovations, and homes built by other contractors across North Texas. The same team, same shop, same standards — regardless of who poured the foundation.

What areas do you serve for cabinetry?+

Our cabinetry shop is based in Gainesville, and we serve the full North Texas region: Gainesville, Whitesboro, Sherman, Denison, Celina, Prosper, Gunter, Pilot Point, Aubrey, Denton, McKinney, Frisco, and the broader DFW metroplex. For projects beyond a 60-mile radius, we add a modest travel fee for measurement and installation trips.

What hardware and finishes do you use?+

We spec Blum soft-close undermount drawer slides and concealed hinges as standard — the gold standard in cabinet hardware, rated for 200,000+ open/close cycles. Finishes are sprayed in our climate-controlled finishing room: conversion varnish for clear/natural finishes, pre-catalyzed lacquer for painted work, and hand-rubbed oil for specialty pieces. Hardware (pulls, knobs) is sourced from Top Knobs, Emtek, and Rocky Mountain Hardware at client direction.
