Outdoor Living
Breathtaking outdoor spaces — custom pools, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, fire features, and resort-style landscaping — that extend luxury beyond your walls. Because in North Texas, the outdoors is living space nine months of the year.
Luxury Without Walls
The line between indoors and out dissolves in a Southern Shore outdoor living space. We design and build resort-caliber environments that become natural extensions of your home — places where you'll host dinner parties, watch Sunday football, swim laps at sunrise, and toast marshmallows with your kids on a Tuesday night.
The secret to a great outdoor space isn't any single feature — it's how the pieces work together. A pool that's visible from the kitchen island so you can watch the kids swim. A pergola positioned to shade the dining table during dinner hours. A fire pit sited to catch the prevailing breeze without smoking out the seating area. These relationships are what separate a collection of backyard features from a designed outdoor living environment — and they're what we deliver.
Our outdoor division handles everything: design, hardscape, pool construction, landscape architecture, lighting, and the custom cabinetry that defines the space. One team, one vision, one point of accountability — no coordinating four different contractors and hoping they communicate.

Outdoor Services
Custom Pool Design & Construction
A Southern Shore pool is an architectural feature, not an afterthought. We design and build gunite pools, infinity edges, lap pools, plunge pools, and spools (spa + pool) — each scaled to your property, sight lines, and how you'll actually use the water. Integrated automatic covers, variable-speed pumps, LED lighting, and salt or ozone sanitation systems are standard; we don't build pools with 1990s technology.
Outdoor Kitchens & Dining
A true outdoor kitchen goes far beyond a grill on the patio. We build full cooking stations with gas grills, flat-tops, pizza ovens, smokers, refrigeration, ice makers, sinks, and bar seating — all housed in weatherproof custom cabinetry matched to your indoor kitchen's design language. Granite or quartzite counters, stainless cabinetry cores, and marine-grade electrical ensure it looks as good in year ten as it did on day one.
Pergolas, Pavilions & Shade
In the North Texas summer, shade isn't a luxury — it's a requirement. We design and build custom pergolas, pavilions, cabanas, and shade sails using cedar, steel, or aluminum structures. Motorized louvered roofs, retractable canopies, ceiling fans, and integrated infrared heaters extend the outdoor season from March through November — or year-round with the right setup.
Fire Features
A fire feature is the soul of an outdoor space — the thing that pulls people outside on crisp October evenings and keeps the party going long after dinner ends. We build custom fire pits, linear fire tables, outdoor fireplaces, and fire bowls in natural stone, cast concrete, or steel. Gas, wood-burning, or dual-fuel — each paired with built-in seating designed around the fire, not dropped in as an afterthought.
Landscape Architecture & Hardscape
Great hardscape creates the bones; great planting brings it to life. Our landscape design integrates native and adapted species — Texas sage, ornamental grasses, live oaks, and crepe myrtles — with stone patios, retaining walls, walkways, and water-wise irrigation. We work with licensed landscape architects who understand North Texas climate, soil, and water restrictions.

Why Build Your Outdoor Space with Southern Shore?
The difference between a backyard and an outdoor living environment is how it was designed — and who built it.
Single-Source Accountability
One firm designs and builds your pool, hardscape, kitchen, structures, and landscaping. No finger-pointing between subs — just one team responsible for the entire outdoor environment working as intended.
Indoor-Outdoor Continuity
Because we're also building (or have built) the home, we design outdoor spaces that flow naturally from interior architecture — sight lines, traffic patterns, and material palettes stay coherent across the threshold.
Built for North Texas
We understand our climate: the 105° August afternoons, the spring storm season, the freeze-thaw cycles, the expansive clay. Every material, planting, and drainage decision is made with local conditions in mind.
Interior-Grade Detailing
Our cabinetry division builds outdoor kitchen cabinets to the same standards as indoor kitchen cabinets. Same joinery, same finishes (with UV-stable topcoats), same hardware — no shortcuts because it's 'outside.'
Technology That Disappears
Fully integrated lighting, audio, WiFi, and automation that you control from your phone — but that sits invisibly in the design. Wires are buried, speakers are hidden, controllers live in ventilated cabinets you'll never see.
Lifetime Support
We stand behind every outdoor project. Pool equipment serviced, stone sealed, wood refinished — our relationship with your outdoor space doesn't end at the final walkthrough.
Frequently Asked Questions
What North Texas homeowners ask about outdoor living spaces.
How much does a luxury outdoor living space cost in North Texas?+
Outdoor living projects span an enormous range depending on scope, from a well-appointed outdoor kitchen with pergola to a custom pool with surrounding hardscape and landscaping, up to full estate-level outdoor environments with pools, kitchens, pavilions, fire features, landscaping, lighting, and audio. Every project begins with a design consultation and a detailed proposal based on your specific property, priorities, and budget. We'll be transparent about what things cost and help you phase the work if needed.
How long does an outdoor living project take?+
Timeline depends on scope and permitting. A standalone outdoor kitchen or pergola might take 6–10 weeks. A custom pool with hardscape typically runs 12–20 weeks (gunite shell, curing, tile/coping, plaster, equipment, decking). A full outdoor environment combining multiple features can span 4–8 months from start to final planting. We provide a phased timeline at contract signing with clear milestones — and we communicate progress weekly throughout construction.
Do you handle HOA approvals and permits?+
Yes. We manage the full approval process: HOA architectural review submissions, city building permits, and any environmental or conservation district requirements. North Texas HOAs — especially in master-planned communities in Prosper, Celina, and Frisco — often have detailed requirements for pool placement, fence heights, and structure setbacks. We know the process and handle it on your behalf.
Can you design an outdoor space for an existing home?+
Absolutely. In fact, the majority of our outdoor living projects are for existing homes — either Southern Shore homes where we're adding outdoor amenities, or homes built by others where the owners want a resort-quality backyard. We work with your existing architecture, door/window placements, and site conditions to create a design that feels like it was always part of the plan.
What's the best time of year to start an outdoor project in North Texas?+
Pool excavation and hardscape work are most efficient in late fall through early spring (October–March) when rain is less frequent and soil conditions are more predictable. Starting in October–November means your pool shell cures through winter and your space is ready for finish work by March — just in time for swim season. That said, we build year-round and manage weather delays as part of every schedule. The best time to start is when you're ready — we'll handle the rest.
