Cabinetry Division

Built-In Cabinetry

Built-in cabinetry transforms a room from a container of furniture into an architecturally complete space. Southern Shore's cabinetry division designs, builds, and installs custom built-ins — entertainment centers, library walls, mudroom systems, office casework, and storage solutions — millwork that's measured to the millimeter and designed to last a lifetime.

Overview

Millwork That Fits

The difference between a piece of furniture pushed against a wall and a true built-in is in the details: flush fit to baseboards and crown molding, scribed fillers against uneven walls, integrated lighting on dimmers, and proportions that match the room's architecture rather than fighting it. Our built-in cabinetry is designed and fabricated specifically for your space — every shelf, drawer, and door is made to measure. The result is cabinetry that looks like it was built with the house, because it was.

Materials & Finishes

Solid Hardwood

White oak, walnut, cherry, maple, alder. Grain-matched fronts, dovetailed drawers, soft-close undermount slides. The gold standard — beautiful, repairable, and built for generations.

Best for: Living spaces, libraries, visible built-ins

Paint-Grade

Poplar or maple substrate with sprayed conversion varnish in any color. Dead-flat, satin, or semi-gloss sheen. Clean, architectural look. Finger-jointed construction for stability.

Best for: Mudrooms, laundry rooms, painted kitchens

Veneered Panels

Engineered substrate with sequenced wood veneer — walnut, white oak, rift-sawn oak, mahogany. Consistent grain across large surfaces at a lower cost than solid.

Best for: Entertainment walls, large cabinet runs

Thermofoil & Laminate

Durable, cleanable, consistent. Modern matte and super-matte finishes. Not the wood look — we use these where the material is the aesthetic statement.

Best for: Garage storage, utility spaces, modern interiors

Mixed Material

Wood cabinetry with stone counter inserts, metal mesh door panels, leather-wrapped pulls, glass-front uppers with interior lighting. The custom cabinetmaker's art.

Best for: Wet bars, wine rooms, statement built-ins

Specialty Hardware

Soft-close everything. Push-to-open doors for clean fronts. Integrated LED strip lighting on occupancy sensors. Cabinet locks for valuables. Pull-out trays, dividers, and charging drawers.

Best for: Every installation — standard on Southern Shore built-ins

Our Process

1. Measure & Design

We measure your space — every wall, corner, outlet, and vent. Our designer develops shop drawings showing every cabinet, shelf, and detail with dimensions, materials, and hardware specifications. You approve the drawings before a single board is cut.

2. Fabricate

All cabinetry is built in our shop, not on site. Climate-controlled environment, professional-grade equipment, and the time to get every joint right. We apply finish in a dedicated spray booth for a flawless surface.

3. Install

Our install team delivers and installs your cabinetry. Every piece is scribed to your walls, leveled, and secured. Crown molding and baseboard are integrated. Hardware is adjusted. The site is left clean. We don't leave until every drawer opens with one finger.

4. Walkthrough

We walk through the finished installation together. We demonstrate every feature, verify every drawer and door operates correctly, and confirm the finish meets our standard. Any adjustment is made on the spot. You sign off when you're satisfied.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do custom built-ins cost?+

Built-in cabinetry is priced by the linear foot and varies dramatically with materials and complexity. An entertainment center wall, home library wall, mudroom system with lockers and bench, or a home office with desk and storage each have different cost profiles. We provide fixed-price quotes based on approved shop drawings — every project is unique, and we'll give you an exact number before we cut a single board.

Can you match existing cabinetry in my home?+

Yes. We match door profiles, species, stain color, sheen, and hardware. We'll take a sample door or drawer front from your existing cabinetry and produce an exact match. This is essential for additions — adding a hutch to an existing kitchen, or expanding a library wall — where new work must be indistinguishable from old.

How long does a built-in project take?+

Typical timeline: 2–4 weeks for design and shop drawings, 4–8 weeks for fabrication (depending on shop backlog and project complexity), 1–5 days for installation. A single entertainment center: 6–8 weeks total. A whole-house package (mudroom, office, bar, library): 10–14 weeks. We'll give you a firm timeline during the design phase.

Do you build freestanding pieces as well as built-ins?+

Yes — our cabinetry division builds both built-in and freestanding casework. Dining tables, desks, beds, and standalone storage pieces are all within our capability. Built-ins are fixed to the structure; freestanding pieces are movable. The craft is the same — furniture-grade joinery and finishes — the attachment is the only difference.
